Lawn Care Tips
I'm of the species Homosapiens "self-propellus,"
a breed that actually enjoys cutting grass. I've been doing
it for over 40 years and I know what I'm talking about. Here
are some tips for you do-it-your-selfers:
- Only mow as much as necessary.
- Mow high: 3 inches is optimal.
- Mulch, don't bag, your clippings. It
contributes nitrogen to the soil, which reduces the need
for chemical fertilizers.
- Don't mow in the rain.
- "Fall seeding" is a myth. Aug. 15-Oct. 1 is our window in MetroWest. You can push that to Oct. 15 IF you are seeding a shady area. Anyone who tells you otherwise is selling you something you don't need, and you better make sure you get a guarantee before you buy it.
| Our business is designing, building, upgrading and maintaining landscapes. Your lawn is a part of that.
Our lawncare services include:
- Lawn Mowing and Repair
- New Lawn Installation (Seed/Sod)
- Aeration and Dethatching
- Spot Seeding
- Crabgrass Prevention
- Lime Application and Soil Amendment
- Irrigation and Water Management
- Weed and Pest Control
I realize that having a great lawn means different things to different people. In most cases, it boils down to two options:
1. A green, weed-free carpet.
OR
2. A green lawn with some weeds and crabgrass that
you don't need to water or use pesticides to maintain.
We can give you either, or anything in between, but the level of maintenance,
time commitment, and cost will vary depending on your answer. So,
during our first consultation with you, I’ll ask you to complete
this sentence:
Compared to last year, I want my lawn to look:
___Better ___Worse ___The same __Couldn't care less.
It's a useful way for you and your spouse or partner to start talking
about exactly what you want in a lawn, your commitment to it, and
the level of service you'll need to maintain it. For more tips about
how to evaluate your lawn and set realistic expectations, read on...
